Walk History

The Cursillo pilgrimage to Knock, better known as (The Walk to Knock) began in 1988. It was an organised event to celebrate the Marian Year and  Cursillo 10th anniversary in the North West of Ireland. It was envisaged to be a one off event, but has since developed into a large community event over the last twenty-four years, involving pilgrims from all over the North. From the Diocese of Derry, Down and Connor, Raphoe and Dublin. Eight years ago the Dublin walk began in response to a number of Dublin pilgrims who had participated in the pilgrimages from Derry and Belfast over ten years.
There are now three organised walks setting out on Wednesday, 20th July from

The purpose of the pilgrimage is an offering of five days of prayer for the purpose of Peace in our hearts, Peace in our homes and Peace in our country. Over the walk, the pilgrims pray the Rosary continuously and each day is considered as an individual pilgrimage to the celebration of the Eucharist at night in their host town.
